Nellis Air Force Base
Operational Test and Evaluation
Nellis Air Force Base, located just outside of Las Vegas, Nevada, is one of the first bases to conduct operational tests on the F-35 Lightning II.
At the base, the flight team provides developmental test support, drives
development evaluation and supports the initial operational test and evaluation
program. Information from these assessments will help teams establish how the
F-35A will be used in an operational environment. Operational Test is also
underway at Edwards
Warfare CenterNellis AFB is also home to the U.S. Air Force Warfare Center .The 422nd Test and Evaluation Squadron is designing the tactics the F-35 is going to use in air-to-air and air-to surface combat and the creation of curriculum for future F-35 pilots. The squadron is also determining how to integrate the F-35 with other aircraft in the Air Force inventory.
The Weapons School received its first F-35 in January 2015, and in June, Nellis jets took part in the Air Forces simulated battlespace exercise, Green Flag West.
